"For an adult learner, it is often difficult to find a teacher who is sympathetic and technically rigorous, someone who is encouraging and positive and yet who pushes the student to achieve a little more than he/she thought possible. Maiani is such a teacher. As a viola student, I studied with her for two semesters. I had played the violin starting in my early 40s and had only recently made the switch to viola. She carefully listened to my description of what I wanted to accomplish and was intent on making the lessons and learning relevant to my goals. Further, Maiani is very much into mutual exploration with her students -- I felt as though I was figuring out WITH her how to improve the fundamentals of my technique. And when it came to interpreting musical pieces, Maiani was full of insight and discovery, focusing on how the technique could serve the music. On top of it all, Maiani is so warm and friendly -- I eagerly looked forward to each lesson. If she still lived in San Francisco I would still be her student!"

"I can't say enough about Maiani. Maiani is amazing. She obviously loves what she does. Because of her, my kids love to play instruments, she is warm and caring, and really shares the joy of music!

In addition to being a really patient and extremeley capable teacher, Maiani is just about one of the best people that you're ever going to meet in this life. My daughters have taken violin lessons from Maiani for about 6 months and they absolutely love and adore her. Her music skills are top notch, and she is able to reach my kids on a level that they can understand and relate to.

If you're looking for a Drill Sargent to get your prodigy ready for Carnegie Hall there are other options out there. If, however, you want your child to love violin and music in general, then Maiani is the way to go. I cannot say enough good things about her and how she has been such a positive influence on my kids."

"Maiani is more than just a violin teacher. She challenges me to do more than I thought I could. She's my mentor, and she believes in me."

"Maiani is fantastic! She is consummately professional, but is also very warm and approachable and brings humor to her lessons! She is clearly a very talented violinist and has a lot of knowledge to pass on to her students. I learn something new every time I go to see her; I have noticed a huge improvement in my playing. I always look forward to our lessons and I genuinely enjoy our time together! She is fabulous--I'm so glad I found her!"

"With 4 kids invovled in several extra-curricular activities, I am very familiar with quite a number of teachers and their methods. Maiani's mix of high-standard discipline and nurture is unique, and my kids are reaping the benefits, not only in violin, but in their approach to other disciplines. We couldn't be happier and couldn't recommend her enough."

"Maiani is a great teacher. In addition to teaching the technical aspects of playing the violin and reading music, she also really promotes how to find the character within a phrase, tell a story from the music, and create your own voice. She has a love for music and she has knowledge of composers and their pieces which makes for interesting discussions. Both the technical and creative aspects of music are emphasized when working with Maiani."

"I had the pleasure of working with Maiani when she taught at the San Francisco Community Music Center.  Her presence was a joy; she brought her love and excitement for teaching every day, and shared the magic of music with each student, fully engaging every moment. Adult or child, beginning or advanced, Maiani’s students thrived under her attentive instruction."
